Russell Peters once stated in an interview that if it wasn’t for the word of mouth of his fans via the Internet, he wouldn’t be enjoying the success he is today. To be more specific, he too has felt the power of viral videos on the Internet. He became an Internet sensation across the world in a matter of months when one of his performances was leaked back in 2005 (Over 20,000,000+ views).

FF2009 >> For the second year in a row, Peters is hosting the Juno Awards (Sunday, March 29th 2009). This is the first time I have seen him live so it will be interesting to see what sort of new material he has come up with. At the press conference on Friday, he seemed to dip into his bag of overused racial driven jokes for humor which is fun and all but seriously starting to get a little overplayed.

I understand that it’s what he is known for and best at but I quite enjoy his personality on stage and think he can do without for the one night. He claims he’ll be a lot more comfortable this year around and in his own words: “It’s like the second date with a chick”, so I really hope he delivers some new edgy material and leaves that old tattered bag aside. He is most definitely one the most entertaining Canadian stand-ups of late; I don’t doubt he will have GM Place laughing.

After the ceremony, Peters will be hosting his own After Party at Gossip Night Club. If you’re in Vancouver, I hope to see you there!
